March 24, 2010 5pm, Langley, B.C. Canada. This feels very odd, a little powerful and egocentric to be sharing thoughts and ideas with anyone who is interested out there. When you write a book, it is a contolled enviroment but blogging for the first time has a much more naked feeling. Oh well, here it goes! I hope this site can become a tool for the mediation community to trade some ideas and promote what I believe is a very worthwhile product, namely Commercial Mediation. I propose to talk about the process and its application. However, this blog will also be an insight into my trials and trepidations along the mediation road. I would like to provide some feeling about a mediator's life and perhaps it will get a bit personal at times but I believe that if I don't share these feelings and events I will be doing a disservice to the reality of what happens, namely the intersection of a mediator's personality and skills with the vignette that is put forth to be resolved. Some of you can live the mediation practice in a vicarious way, others may be interested in some of the material that I post. There are many good sources of material, remembering that this is still a developing field. I must also learn to speak in generalities about specific and particular mediations and interchange dates and events to protect the confidentiality of the process. Before I sign off for today, I would like to thank three important people for the assistance in having the book published and the website developed. First my new friend, Francis Waller of Gap Management- He has done a fantastic job in guiding me through the process of being a first time published author. Francis will no doubt be contributing to and making comment to this column. Secondly, Jane Griffin of Griffin Design in Vancouver. What a good job she has done in setting out the book and the website.-well done Jane. Finally-Kim Peterson of Creative Plus Solutions has done a terrific job of the technical setting up of the website. Well, enough for now. i don't wish to go on too long on any indidvidual blog as I want it to be interseing to do and not to feel the burden of doing lenghty content all the time. However, for a 55 year old lawyer/medaitor, this is pretty exciting. For now, Bryce Jeffery |
