One of the problems of a busy life is finding the time to do things that you are planning to accomplish. I like sharing thoughts on this blog and feel frustrated that I haven't devoted more time here. Oh well! I will try to find some more hours. Got back at 1: am last night from Kamloops where we did a very satisfying multiparty mediation. Multiparty always brings differnt challenges as the various parties, in this case, defendants, had differing views as to their responsibility and even the assessment of damages. Therefore, the mediation was conducted very cautiously with attention to all sides. 7 hours of hard work and it was done! Two items of interest were the analysis by the parties of the issues of liability and contributory negligence. Still, it was an example of smart people working hard and achieving the goal of a satisfactory resolution. One thing I like about mediating on the road, is the sense of "petite adventure", even if the course becomes inconvenient. A 7:30 pm flight back to Vancouver turned out to be a midnight flight as the plane was first late from Calgary, then had to be changed in Calgary as their was a smell in the luggage hold, then there was a mechanical problem (flat tire) after it landed in Kamloops. They flew a maintenance guy in from Vancouver and let us leave on the plane he came in on. The waiting lounge was full of resigned business people, who patiently waited and were more than happy to hear the propellers cut a midnight buzz. Thanks to Joe Zac from Horne Marr Zac and Meranda Thiessen from Dolden Wallace for making the evening bearable. Good conversation can cut through the time as well as a Grisham novel. Anyway, For Now, Bryce Jeffery |
